Circuit Fleet Spotlight | Lotus Elise
Lotus is an esteemed British carmaker – both on and off of the race track. The guiding philosophy of Lotus’ designs since its founding in 1948 is making cars as light as possible – famously expressed by the late founder Colin Chapman “Adding horsepower will make a car faster on the straights, adding lightness will make a car faster everywhere.” This commitment has produced some of the lightest and most purpose-built sportscars made for those who love driving and a pure, connected feel with their car.
Undoubtedly, one of Lotus’ best cars to-date is the Elise. Produced from 1996 to 2022 over three generations (Series 1, Series 2, and Series 3), the Elise garnered significant acclaim over its life as one of the most dynamic and rewarding sportscars to experience, and often served as a benchmark for other carmakers for handling. The original Series 1 Elise weighed a mere 725 kg (1598 lbs), and the final Series 3 supercharged Elise bowed-out of production weighing just 922 kg (2033 lbs). By contrast, the comparable four-cylinder turbocharged Porsche 718 Cayman in its lightest configuration weighs 1350 kg (2976 lbs).
We are overjoyed to welcome this dark blue 2006 Series 2 Lotus Elise to our fleet, complete with a soft ‘targa’-style removable roof. Powered by robust and rev-happy Toyota inline-4 engine, and slick 6-speed manual transmission, our Elise makes great use of its 189 bhp to reach 100 km/h from standstill in under 5-seconds and is an unmatchable experience to make fast work of our 19-corner, Hermann Tilke designed circuit.
