Winter Car Safety Kits | Seasonal Driving Tips
As we approach Winter driving season on Vancouver Island, colder temperatures can bring slushy, snowy, and icy conditions to our roads. Now is the perfect time to speak with your dealership’s Service Advisor to ensure you and your vehicle are fully prepared for the months ahead. Proper winter readiness not only helps keep your vehicle performing at its best, but also contributes to safer, smoother, and more assured travels for everyone.
Even with a well-maintained vehicle, unpredictable weather can still create challenging situations. Having a few essential safety items on-hand can make all the difference if you find yourself delayed, stuck, or waiting for assistance. You can purchase a pre-assembled emergency kit for your vehicle, or build your own with some of these recommended items:
- Ice scraper and snow brush
- Jumper cables and/or a booster pack
- Flashlight – lithium batteries perform better in cold conditions
- Warm gloves, boots, hat, coat, blankets, or a weatherproof jacket
- Hand warmers or candles
- Non-perishable snacks and water, stored in a plastic bottle
- Reflective warning triangles or LED flares, plus a reflective vest
- Traction aids such as mats, tire socks, or chains
- Compact folding shovel
- Lock de-icer (for older vehicles)
You may also want to consider winter-ready tires. Both all-weather and winter tires carry the Three-Peak Mountain Snowflake (3PMSF) symbol, indicating significantly improved snow traction over traditional all-season M+S tires – performance-focused winter tires exist too for appropriate vehicles.
Being prepared is one of the simplest ways to stay confident on the road this winter. Let’s all drive safely into the season ahead.
