BMW recently revealed the Neue Klasse M Concept, offering a glimpse at the future of its iconic performance division. While a concept, many of its bold design cues are expected to find their way onto the next-generation M3. Look closely and you will spot modern interpretations of classic BMW styling – from the pronounced front overhang that nods to the legendary “shark nose” models of the 1980s, to subtle details like the signature red instrument lighting and the unmistakable Hoffmeister kink.

The biggest talking point, however, is what lies beneath the bodywork. For the first time, BMW is developing a fully electric M car – not simply an M Sport trim on an existing electric model. The concept features four electric motors, one powering each wheel, paired with an 800-volt architecture designed for serious performance – both charging and discharging. BMW has also integrated the battery packs into the axle structures, improving chassis rigidity while strategically lowering and distributing weight.

BMW has indicated an internal combustion version will accompany the electric model, so it will be up to enthusiasts and buyers alike to experience both to inform their opinion on BMW’s engineering and performance trajectory. Above all, regardless of propulsion, the future of performance models from BMW promises to be exciting and a top of mind conversation in the car world.
