The Long-Awaited Lotus Emira: A Supercar Worth the Wait and a Bittersweet Farewell to Gasoline Power

We won’t dwell on the long wait for the Lotus Emira (three years since its initial launch, thanks to a global pandemic), but the time has finally come for this stunning vehicle to be delivered to its patient customers worldwide. The Emira, with its supercar aesthetics, has proven to be worth the wait, garnering rave reviews as the best Lotus ever. Even the famously critical Jeremy Clarkson praised its handling, comparing it favorably to the Elise.

Currently, the Emira offers the rare choice between automatic and manual transmissions. It comes with two engine options: a supercharged Toyota-sourced 3.5-liter V6, and a forthcoming 2.0-liter inline-4 from AMG (automatic only). For those interested in racing, Lotus is also producing race-ready GT4 versions of the Emira, equipped with the supercharged V6 tuned to a thrilling 460 horsepower and weighing in at just 1350 kg.

Sadly, the Emira is set to be the last gasoline-powered Lotus ever. Here’s hoping they reconsider!
