Last Thursday, we had the pleasure of hosting a small delegation from Mercedes-Benz and AMG. We were able to show them the new partner hotel and the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit in its current state.
One of the people visiting us was Reinhold Renger, a seasoned 24 Hour series and VLN Racing (loose translation from German- Association of Nürburgring Endurance Cup Organisers) series driver. Renger is also the chief instructor of the world wide AMG Driving Academy.
As the future Partner Hotel was used a few times in the past by Mercedes-Benz Canada to host exclusive events on Vancouver Island, the visit felt like coming back home.
Memories of past events were part of the discussions, such as the unforgettable 2001 300 SL Club Convention, and the 2010 Mercedes-Benz GLK Introduction. Standing on the deck of the hotel reminded us that there isn’t a better place on our island to see its beautiful mountains, fjord-like inlets, and wildlife.
After a short 20-minute drive, we arrived at the track. We were able to have a site walk, drive the track carefully without damaging the final grading, and discuss the progress with Chris Erb, our General Contractor.
The track layout, the safety run-off areas, the need for event parking, and many other details were discussed. We are grateful for the feedback. Some of the ideas presented will now go back to our design team, and a few small corrections will be made to the layout of the pit lane. The delegation’s opinion can be summarized by the following quote: “We were all very impressed with what we saw.”
Another very productive visit to the driving circuit in the last week before we pave!
