“Success is no accident. It is hard work, perseverance, learning, studying, sacrifice and most of all, love of what you are doing or learning to do.” – Pele
Inspiration can come from the most unlikely places, and for Circuit member, David Smith, driving on the track was part of the journey that inspired him to beat his illness.
Being a stage IV metastatic survivor alone is a tremendous demonstration of strength and perseverance. David shared with fellow members how training in performance driving was part of his fitness and wellness program that helped fight and tackle his illness.

His battle with cancer began only a short while ago in Arizona, where he was introduced to the local race track as a way to support his treatments. Also as a newcomer to performance driving, he found extra strength to tackle the challenge of the track while he was recovering from aggressive treatments. Meeting both goals in just over a year, he then chose to get his membership at the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit to maintain what he had started. He uses the Circuit to continue to test and train his abilities in hopes to gain his professional certification while continuing in his health and wellness program.
David is a man that is soft spoken and few words, but when he shared his short story to the rest of his fellow members, you could sense the overwhelming inspiration by his personal journey and success.
We are proud to have David Smith as a member of the Vancouver Island Motorsport Circuit. An iconic individual to our staff and members as we are pleased to provide him with the venue to meet his own objectives.
